AUDITS

With over 15 years experience as a naturopath, and a pioneer in the field of building biology, author and building biologist Nicole Bijlsma specialises in assessing the home for allergens, mould and electromagnetic fields. There are a variety of packages to suit your needs.

Healthy Home Audit (mould, allergens, chemicals...) $495 (plus laboratory costs* for mould sampling if required)

Suffer from allergies, asthma, sinus, fatigue, runny eyes or ongoing colds and flus? Are you chemically or electrically sensitive? Maybe there's something in the house you are allergic to? OR concerned about the black mould growing in your home? The audit includes an inspection for chemicals and plastics (in household products), electromagnetic fields and allergens in the house such as mould, dust, dust mites, dampness and pet dander. An investigation of your vacuum cleaner will also be undertaken. A moisture meter, indoor air quality meter and electromagnetic field equipment will be used where required at no additional charge. As part of the audit, you will be shown how to effectively reduce your exposure to dust and dust mite, how to effectively clean mould, what you should store your food and beverages in and how to clean your home without the need for harsh chemicals. The cost includes a copy of the book: Healthy Home, Healthy Family. The audit will take approximately 3 hours. A summary of what was found will be discussed at the time of the audit and sent via email. Reports can be provided at an additional charge of $195 (please let us know prior to conducting the audit).

*This audit DOES NOT include laboratory costs which are $140 per air or surface sample. Air sampling enables you to determine the type of fungi present and its prevalance in the air.

Electromagnetic Field Audit $395

This audit takes between two and three hours and includes an evaluation of electromagnetic fields arising from both in and outside of the house such as from high voltage transmission lines, power lines, substations and nearby mobile phone towers, appliances, meter box/smart meter and wireless technologies (cordless phones, wireless routers, mobile phones...). The focus will be on taking readings where the occupants spend time in the house such as the living spaces, bedrooms and study. The cost includes a copy of the book: Healthy Home Healthy Family. A summary of what was found will be discussed at the time of the audit. Reports incur an extra charge of $195.

Pre inspection Audit for Electromagnetic Fields $245

Thinking about buying or renting a home but concerned about the high voltage transmission lines or nearby mobile phone towers? This audit takes around an 1 hour and includes an evaluation of external sources of electromagnetic fields from high voltage transmission lines, power lines, tram or train lines, substations and nearby mobile phone towers that could be affecting the home. This does not include an internal survey of electromagnetic field sources in the home. A verbal summary is provided at the time of the audit.

Phone consultation $30 per 15 minutes / $60 per 1/2 hour...

Building a Healthy Home

For most of us, our home will be the biggest investment of our life. With the shift towards creating energy efficient buildings, few builders, architects or government authorities have considered the adverse impact this may have on the health of the occupants. A building biologist will work with your architect / draftsperson to design a home that supports the health and the wellbeing of the family. In particularly we will provide advice regarding the choice of healthy building materials that don't adversely affect the indoor air quality or electroclimate of the home.
