Nicole Bijlsma is a woman of passion, and her passion lies in environmental medicine. Nicole is an accomplished naturopath, acupuncturist, IICRC accredited mould remediation technician and building biologist who has been in clinical practice since 1989. Nicole is the author of the bestseller Healthy Home, Healthy Family, was a columnist for Body+Soul (Sunday Newspaper) and has featured on every major television network including the 7PM Project, Sunrise (seven times), the Today Show, The Circle, Channel 7 News, Today Tonight and Channel 74. She is regularly consulted by the media to comment on health hazards associated with our homes. She is also the founder and CEO of the Australian College of Environmental Studies a registered training organisation that was established in 1999 to educate people about the health hazards in the built environment and was a founding member of the Australasian Society of Building Biologists. The college provides nationally accredited training in Building Biology and Feng Shui. Apart from her extensive experience lecturing at tertiary institutions for over twenty years, and at various medical and well being conferences both in Australia and abroad and has conducted various radio interviews about her work. Nicole is currently studying her PhD in Environmental Chemical Assessement at RMIT.
She first became interested in building biology as a result of two events that occurred in her life: the first was when she began to notice the connection between many of her patient’s ill health and their homes. The second was her infertility (read my story). The cause of her ten miscarriages was eventually identified as an immune disorder (which was diagnosed by a US reproductive immunologist) which she now suspects arose from long term exposure to a high electromagnetic field. Once these issues were addressed, she successfully gave birth to her three children.

WHAT IS BUILDING BIOLOGY?
What is Building Biology? Wellbeing Magazine May 2016
Originating from Germany, Building Biology is a science that provides a holistic examination of the built environment and provides realistic solutions to create buildings that support the mind, body and soul. These hazards include everything from the products we use to air, water and biological contaminants (mould) as well as electromagnetic fields and geopathic stress.
WHAT DOES A BUILDING BIOLOGIST DO?
A Building Biologist is typically employed to conduct everything from electromagnetic field testing; air sampling for allergens, chemicals and particulates; provide advice on building healthy homes; provide recommendations on water filters; conduct pre-inspection audits; provide advice on healthy personal care and cleaning products and to identify and address geopathic stress. WHERE CAN I LEARN TO BECOME A BUILDING BIOLOGIST?
Nationally accredited training is available at the Australian College of Environmental Studies. Flexible delivery means you can learn at any time, anywhere in the world. The comprehensive manuals, videos of the lectures and access to a trainer enables you to learn the material in your own time, at your own pace.
